Every year around this time I find myself scouring the Internet for a few pieces to add to my closet that my fall and winter wardrobe had been lacking, namely color. I admittedly spend about eight months of the year strictly in black, navy, gray and white, so by the time May rolls around I find myself uncharacteristically on the hunt for some colorful pieces.
When selecting my favorite “stand out” summer pieces, two things instantly stood out, the first being a vibrant orange Carlisle jacket. What I love about this jacket is you can wear it from spring to summer, as it is not super heavy. Another plus is it can be easily dressed up or down. Throw it on how Maggie styled it with jeans and a cami or pair it over a solid silk slip dress for evenings and you are set! It truly is the quintessential work to weekend piece.
The second item that came to mind was a turquoise midi Carlisle skirt. Just as much of a statement piece as the jacket, this skirt will instantly make any outfit pop. Skirts in general are typically just as much of a departure for me as bold colors (you will pretty much always catch me in jeans and some sort of button down) but there is absolutely nothing better than having a versatile piece like this hanging in your closet just waiting for that moment when you are in a crunch and think you have nothing to wear. This skirt, like the jacket, can be dressed up or down, and I think that is key when building an accessible (and chic) wardrobe.
Last but not least, what’s an outfit without accessories? Below I’ve selected a few accessories that can be seamlessly paired back to both the jacket and skirt. Just throw on your favorite top and you will be ready for any occasion.
